Volunteering Project

How can you find a volunteer placement?
 Decide what you would like to do. If you’ve got a career goal, choose an opportunity related to the area you would eventually like to find paid work in. If you’ve got a passion, why not volunteer for an organisation that shares your beliefs?

 A good place to start is your local volunteer centre (details at the back of this book). Register you interests and contact details with us. We can advise you about volunteering and current opportunities and try and find a matching opportunity on our database.

 How Lambeth Volunteer Centre works.
When a local organisation is looking for volunteers it will log their volunteering opportunities with us. We take this information and load it onto a data base. When volunteers visit looking for placements we take down their details, what their interests are, how much time they have to give, etc, and then we will help locate appropriate opportunities. We can also answer any questions people may have about volunteering.

 Other places to look for volunteering opportunities…
Many organisations advertise volunteer positions in local papers, larger charities run adverts in the national papers as well. National papers usually run pages advertising volunteer opportunities on one day of the week, the Independent on Thursdays and the Guardian on Wednesday both have pages dedicated to volunteering opportunities amongst their other job adverts.

 If you know the organisation you would like to volunteer for, you might think about approaching them directly. Ask to speak to their Volunteer Manager/Coordinator. They will answer any questions you have about their application process.
