Volunteering Project

What organisations can you volunteer for?
Almost anything you want to do or can think of! You can volunteer to help run an office, organise events, demonstrate organic farming, build houses, write a magazine, judge criminals as a magistrate, or fix computers. There are organisations out there you can join that cater for every interest and minority group imaginable.

Some of the areas you can volunteer in include…
 Mental Health. There are a number of day care centres in Lambeth, where you can lend a helping hand and a kind ear. Centres often need help organising activities and there are always those in need of a friendly chat.

 Charity Shops. There are plenty of charity shops in Lambeth, they are always looking for more help. Volunteers can gain a wealth of experience working in retail including communication and customer care, merchandising, team working, cashing-up and banking, recruiting and many more.

 Hospitals have their own volunteer departments and the work of volunteers in hospitals can be quite varied according to what skills you have. Befriending patients, massage, organising the mobile library and many more tasks are given to volunteers.

 Befriending Offers support to children, young people and adults through the development of an ongoing relationship. Volunteers usually receive training as they may be working with vulnerable people.

 Administration There are hundreds of small charities, and big ones, who rely on the support of volunteers to keep them ticking. Acting as admin support in an organisation offers the unique opportunity to learn new skills and support an organisation or campaign you really believe in.

 Committee Members These are in serious short supply, so if you have the commitment and are not afraid of a little hard work and some training. This kind of volunteering position can be very rewarding. Being a committee member can mean being available for board meetings and when important decisions need to be made and having a real say in a project or an organisations direction.

Everybody has a valuable skill. If you can listen, cook, answer the phone, stuff an envelope, read, use a computer – there is an opportunity out there for you
