Launch of the Volunteer Centre Lambeth
On 3rd June, at a fantastic launch event, Lambeth Voluntary Action Council (LVAC) officially launched a new Volunteer Centre for Lambeth.
Funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund and the City Bridge Trust, this long awaited new Centre will provide thousands of local people with help to find volunteer roles in the borough. It will also provide voluntary and community sector groups with a new way to recruit volunteers as well as specialist advice and guidance about involving volunteers. LVAC have been working hard to realise the dream of establishing a Volunteer Centre in Lambeth for many years. The service is desperately needed in the borough especially during this time of recession with many people, recently unemployed, looking to give their time to charity.
Conrad Hollingsworth, LVAC’s Director, says “Volunteering is key to the wellbeing of our society. The people of Lambeth, in all their diversity, deserve to have a central resource where they can easily access opportunities. Furthermore, voluntary and community sector groups and organisations deserve the support and representation of an organisation such as a Volunteer Centre. Establishing a Volunteer Centre for the Borough of Lambeth has been one of LVAC’s priorities for a number of years. It is a pleasure to demonstrate that LVAC listens and responds to the needs of our community”
This is just the start. The Volunteer Centre will expand and grow, providing additional services including the provision of free training to volunteers and workers in the voluntary and community sector.
