Health and Wellbeing Impact Assessment (HWIA)

Lambeth First are keen to use the opportunities provided by the Local Area Agreement (LAA) to make a positive contribution to health and wellbeing in Lambeth. One way of doing this has been to undertake a Health and Wellbeing Impact Assessment.

On 12 January 2007, LVAC/CEN hosted a HWIA LAA ‘Impact on Health’ seminar at the Lambeth Accord in Brixton. This was an opportunity for the voluntary and community sector to consider and comment on the initial conclusions of the HWIA, what they mean for voluntary and community organisations in Lambeth and the communities they serve.

Following introduction presentations, focused action sets allowed delegates to comment specifically on health issues relating to younger and older people.

You can download these documents here:

And if you attended the event but didn’t have an opportunity to comment on it, you can still download the Evaluation Forum and send it into us with your feedback.

HWIA – Following Up on the seminar

The HWIA is due to be completed at the end of March 2007. A final report will be submitted to the Lambeth Health and Social Care Partnership. A copy of this will also be presented to the Local Strategic Partnership (Lambeth First). The aim of this is to provide information and recommendations to enable the opportunities to promote health and well-being through current Neighbourhood Renewal Funded (NRF) projects and other related services and the evolving LAAs.

In completing the HWIA some active support is now being offered to those projects and services where there are links that will enable a greater number of people to receive health-related information and advice. This work was started by the LVAC/CEN seminar of 12 January, and was followed up by two more workshops with projects and services.

From this there is now targeted work underway to strengthen those links – particularly on men’s health, parents and young children and young people. CEN members who attended the January workshop are being contacted where there are obvious links, however, those who may wish to be involved with any of the emerging themes are welcome to contact the consultants undertaking this work.

Groups interested in doing this should contact:
