The Compact Policy/Development Officer is Annette Laidler and she is based with LVAC. She is here to meet with your organisation, forum or network – to explain the what the Compact is and how it could work for you.

Why use Compact?

Understanding it isn't enough - the Compact and it’s five codes exist to be used. This might mean:
• looking at what the Compact says about consultation before a policy change, a Best Value Review or a new service is developed.
• In monitoring performance, look at whether the way you work is in line with the Compact.
• If you work with voluntary and community groups, are your expectations of them linked to the undertakings from the voluntary and community sector in the Lambeth Compact?

The Compact has general commitments requiring interpretation to match local needs. A way to clarify things is to develop and adopt local codes of practice that reflect the national codes. Again, the CDO can help you do this.
