Community Accountancy

The service operates under the banner ‘AccountAbility’ with a Community Accountant based in Lambeth borough. The aim of the project is to ensure that finance workers have the necessary skills needed to run their groups successfully. Accordingly we offer technical assistance, training and support.

Lambeth Voluntary Action Council’s AccountAbility provides services such as:

One to One Consultancy

We can help groups on a whole range of financial matters including:

  • Keeping proper books and records
  • Preparing budgets and cash flow forecasts
  • Dealing with payroll and PAYE
  • VAT queries
  • Computerising accounts
  • Getting ready for auditors/independent examiners
  • Complying with statutory and funders requirements
  • Reporting financial performance
  • Finding book keepers, accountants, independent examiners and auditors.

Training Courses

Accountability training courses are open to everyone although priority is given to LVAC members. A fee is payable to attend most training courses but this is subsidised considerably for LVAC members. The programme for the new financial year is currently being developed and wil be available shortly but, for details, click here.

Financial Health Checks

We can conduct an in-depth review of all your financial policies, procedures and controls. The results of the review will be compiled in a report which will include recommendations of improvements that can be made. If you need help with implementing the recommendations, we can work with you to help put them into practice. This is a free and confidential service. To determine if your group needs a financial health check click here.

Newsletters and Fact Sheets

The Accountability newsletter is published three times a year and is made available to all LVAC’s members. It contains articles and advice on changing legislation and latest developments relating to finance in the voluntary sector. There are also a number of fact sheets available including those aimed specifically at treasurers and small groups.
