Commissioning and Procurement 'Home Page'
Welcome to this special Commissioning and Procurement mini-site. These pages have been designed to give voluntary and community groups in Lambeth up to date information around key developments in commissioning and procurement issues emerging in early 2007.
What is Commissioning and Procurement?
Commissioning and procurement are increasingly vital to the way public services are designed and delivered. Right now statutory partners are seeking to outline a much stronger role for the voluntary and community sector in these areas - as funding for the VCS moves away from traditional grants and closer to private-sector style contracts.
A basic way to understand these agendas is to think of commissioning as ‘shopping’ (i.e. how decisions about which public services should be commissioned are made) and procurement as ‘buying’ (i.e. what processes should be followed in ‘purchasing’ those services, so that the right bodies deliver the services and value for money is ensured).
To explore these issues further and investigate what role your organisation might have in commissioning and procurement, you should attend the Gearing Up conference on 30th January 2007.
Also look out for the 'Supply Lambeth' event on 7th Feb
and the Step Forward conference on 14th Feb.
