Better Support for the Voluntary Sector

In April 2003, the Lambeth Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) identified that the Council needed to strengthen its working relationship with the voluntary and community sector (VCS) to ensure that it could "increase its capacity to take on increasing responsibilities as a genuine collaborator and partner".

In September 2003, Colin Buchanan and Partners were commissioned by a team, comprising representatives from the Council, LVAC and the CEN, to produce a report that would outline a clear framework for future working betwen the Council and VCS. The report would also include a recommended action plan to make it happen.

The report is now available and can be downloaded via the link below:

Premises Strategy

The draft Premises strategy by Lambeth Council has now been released click here to view a copy.

The final report will be presented to the council Executive in April for approval as the LBL Premises Strategy. The LBL Premises Strategy will make clear what property the Local Authority will make available to the Voluntary and Community Sector and how that property will be managed.

Also available is the interim officer report on Voluntary and Community Sector premises produced by John Kerridge – Assistant Director of Community Renewal at the London Borough of Lambeth (LBL). click here to view a copy. The report contains details of the methodology and outcome of its consultation on its draft Premises strategy and summarises feedback made by members of the Voluntary and Community sector at LBL consultation events, including the LVAC and CEN’s response based on our own consultation events with membership. The report also contains initial draft recommendations on the content of the strategy itself.

A joint feedback meeting is now planned between LBL and LVAC/CEN for members to feed back and comment on the results of the consultation exercise, the interim officer report and the draft strategy. This will not be a chance to introduce new issues but to reflect on how comments have been accepted into the draft strategy and make suggestions for areas where more detail is needed than in the original consultation.

The meeting will take place on 3rd March 2004 at 6pm, venue to be confirmed. Please contact James Philip – CEN Administrator here at LVAC on 0207 737 9463 to register an interest. Meanwhile if you have any specific queries concerning the premises strategy please do not hesitate to contact Alan Hill Lambeth CEN Coordinator on 0207 737 9467 or Stephen Blann LVAC Health and Social Care Officer on 0207 737 9471.
